Parvinjeet Kaur

Parvinjeet Kaur is a practitioner-researcher, systems builder and institution builder working on Productive Inclusion: how finance, enterprise capability, markets and institutions shape people's and firms' ability to participate more productively in the economy.

Her current research focuses on Productive Financial Inclusion and on understanding when financial participation becomes productive economic capacity. She combines field research, institutional engagement, data and practical implementation to examine why similar enterprises can experience very different outcomes even when access to finance appears available.

The path to this work

The work began inside operating businesses, where the constraints on a firm are rarely the ones described in policy documents. Moving into finance and technology made the systems behind those constraints visible: how credit is assessed, how risk is priced, and how infrastructure decides who is reachable and who is not.

Entrepreneurship narrowed the question further. What enterprises needed was seldom only money; it was the capability, market access and institutional conditions that allow money to be used well. Fieldwork in Sierra Leone made that gap concrete: enterprises with similar access to finance producing very different outcomes.

Productive Inclusion is the question that follows from that observation, and building institutions and platforms is the response to it — a way of testing, in practice, what it takes for participation in an economy to become productive.
